"When I picked up my car the rear window latch was not on right.The gate lock was broken.I told you that it was working when I droped it off.You said a piece of glass caused it not to work.I took to my autobody shop and he fixed the window latch and also took the rear door apart.CHECKED and found no glass and the cause was that someone used the wrong key to try and open it.This cost me 100.00 and three hours out of my day.I the reported this to my insurance agent,The person that told me I should go to you.BAD ADVISE If you break it you should fix it.I will let all the people that come into my tavern about the quailty of your work Bob LeDoux"
Hi Bob, Thank you for taking the time to fill out an online comment card and include some remarks which I pasted below. I am really sorry that your vehicle was not repaired to your satisfaction and being a local business owner like you , it pains me to know that you had this experience. We have been here in West Springfield for 17 years now and that is partly because I take comments like yours seriously. When people are here waiting for a job to be done and ask where to go for lunch I give them a few names and one of them is Collins Tavern so I understand the value of "word of mouth". I would like the opportunity to explain and rectify the situation so you may feel comfortable coming back and referring to Affordable Auto Glass. I spoke to the technician who worked on your vehicle this morning and showed him your comments. He explained that the latch to the glass needed to be replaced and that the one in the tailgate did not operate correctly. I know firsthand from doing these myself that the latch on the glass is a common failure on the s10 as the inner threads get destroyed when removing the old bolts, almost every one we have done required replacement. The last one we did was some time ago and the part was not available new at that time as it was discontinued due to the age of your vehicle(1989), therefore we could not at the time install it correctly. In regards to the tailgate lock, keeping in mind that it is not part of the glass assembly that we were working on, the technician thought that broken glass could have jammed up the lock because it can fall down into it so he pulled the panel and removed any glass he could find and that is why your body shop did not find any either. Your guess is as good as ours as to why it was not working, there are two keys for your car a square and round one. Square for the ignition and round for the locks... All GM cars of that era are like that and we know what key goes where as we have worked on thousands of cars. It is very difficult to destroy a lock by trying to use the wrong key (the key will usually break first)and it is equally hard to say that is what caused it. Since something hit the glass hard enough to break it and the latch is attached to the glass which engages the lock, it's quite possible that the damage to the lock occurred then. I can see how you would come to the conclusion that we broke something, I would feel the same way! The technician was obviously on a different page than you. After speaking to you he incorrectly assumed you were ok with the latch needing to be replaced and incorrectly thought you knew someone at the dealership and were going to take care of it and that it was not a big deal. Generally the insurance company will not pay for parts that are not glass unless the body deductible is applied. I do have an idea on this though, please fax me your invoice from the body shop so I can review it and find a resolution that will satisfy you and restore your confidence in Affordable Auto Glass. - Joe Esile

"Car was brought in for a \"safety\" inspection. It was rejected beacause the M on the word Massachusetts was scratched off. Ridiculous !! A trip to RMV for new plates was necessary (That\'s always a treat). A four hour wait for \"computers to sync up\" was necessary after that. Upon revisit the next day to finalize the inspection, no one was available. In all it took a day and a half for an inspection sticker on a vehicle that passed all tests. I understand that Massachusetts is a little beauracratic but there is a real world. At the very least, when my wife was sent an email reminder for the inspection sticker a note about license plate stupidity could have been included. I\'ve had 3 or 4 windshields replaced at the W. Spfld location but I doubt if you\'ll see me again."
Hi James, Thank you for taking time out to fill out our comment card. I am really sorry about your experience getting your inspection sticker here. I have just a quick story to tell that may help you understand our position. A few months ago a customer came in for an inspection sticker, his plate was faded but still legible in our opinion. Not wanting to create a hassle for the customer we passed it and asked them to please look into getting new plates as we would not be able to pass it the next year coming up . Several days later this customer was pulled over for speeding and ticketed for faulty equipment(bad plates) the customer threw us under the bus and said we told him they were fine. The officer looked at the inspection sticker which we just did and contacted the registry. The very next day a registry agent showed up and the shop was written up as was the inspector. A hearing was held and we were suspended from doing inspection stickers for two weeks. This is a negative mark against our shop and my inspector had to stay home for two weeks without pay, our dealership accounts found new inspection sites to go to and we lost two weeks of revenue and customers that we spend thousands to market to. Keep in mind we have two machines as well. I agree with you that MA is ridiculous in many respects but they write the laws not Affordable Auto Glass, it is our job to make sure we do what they say. As a shop owner I have the responsibility to my employees to do everything in my power to keep them working in this down economy and that means making sure our inspection machine privileges do not get taken away. You are a great customer, a repeat customer and I thank you for sticking with us through the years for your glass needs... That is the core of our business and what we do really well. Hi Paul, thanks for taking the time to fill out your comments. Your first one was that we left your door "open" . I wasn't quite sure I understood what you meant because it would be odd for anyone to leave a door open and walk away from a car unless the owner was right there getiing into it. We know you are in the waiting room that is why we hand deliver your keys to you. Just to be sure I reviewed our security cameras and saw that your doors were "shut". I think you meant to say that we did not "lock" your 2010 Mazda doors. You would be correct as we do not. We have a lot person watching the yard and security cameras. Normally one does not stay in the waiting room reading magazines long after their car is inspected, had we known that we could have locked the doors for you. The second thing was the lights, your lights on the 2010 Mazda have "auto" mode and being that it was a gray rainy day they will stay on long after you remove the keys. There is a way to adjust the time they stay on , this can be done found in your owners manual. Some of the other comments were incomplete as well. I am sure that our inspector was neat and clean in appearance and we have a policy to cover your seats ,steering wheel and floor with protective coverings before we enter it. Reviewing the cameras shows this as well. I am adressing these items because rather than remove your comments I thought it would be better to explain what is factual. Anyone who has any reservations about the care we take with a vehicle is welcome to come down and witness it first hand, I know you'll be impressed. Thank you- AAG staff

"The windshield replacement seems to be fine but I was not happy with two other items. First, my inspection sticker was ruined leaving half of it missing. I am concerned about that. And secondly, my rearview mirror is about 1 1/2 inches lower than where the original one was placed. Now I have to duck down to see under it clearly. I have had work done here before with no issues but this time it was dissapointing."
Hi Sandra, we are sorry for the condition of your inspection sticker, you may not be aware of this but they are designed to destroy themselves if they are attempted to be removed. They build in this feature so one can't be removed and placed on another vehicle. The registry gives us "replacement stickers" which are used to place the remains of your sticker on it and it allows us to reuse it. These replacement stickers are numbered and recorded at the registry. Some times the original sticker comes off in one piece and other times they don't. These replacement stickers save you the cost of $29 by not having to reinspect your car when your windshield is replaced. The mirror placement is more than likely just adjusting the stalk higher. This can be accomplished by simply moving the stem of the mirror up towards the roof, the attachment bracket comes glued on at the plant that makes the windshield and should be in the exact spot as your original. If not we can remove it and place it wherever you would like. I will call you to set up a date and time to position your mirror for you. Thank you.

"Thanks to your company I got a wrong record on CARFAX. They put around 30000 miles more than the actual mileage. Although I complained several times nobody even tried to fix the problem. As a result I have a bad history on the car and problems selling it."
Hi Nick, this online comment is for an inspection sticker we did for you and not a glass replacement. The reason your car had the mileage entered higher was because your cars odometer is in kilometers and not miles. We would have had no way of knowing that unless you told us before hand. When you came to us and explained what happend we immediately called the registry on your behalf. They told us that it could be rectified with them and that you would have to go there so they could verify the odometer. Our contact at the registry has not heard from you as of my writing this response. If in fact Carfax picked this up so soon they do have a dispute remedy that can be done by email as well. Of course you would have to provide some documentation showing that your car is in kilometers. Anyone looking to purchase your car would be able to convert kilometers into miles and see what the true mileage is. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Hi Robert, the noise you are hearing is the caused by the window adhesive not being completely cured yet. While it is cured enough for you to drive it safely it is not cured all the way through. This can take a few weeks due to the cold winter weather. Please let a couple weeks go by , then if you still notice a noise we can remove and replace using a stiffer curing adhesive. Thank you - Joe

Hi Mr. Woods, I am very sorry to hear that your repeat visit to Affordable Auto Glass did not meet your expectations. Our goal here is to make sure you want to come back and recommend us to others. I took your comments from our website and spoke to the installer. I will address your concerns below: 1. "I pointed out to the tech that they left the header lining hanging down from the front windshield. He told me to get some spray glue at home depot to fix it." The headliner material adhesive is failing due to the age of the car, it is 12 years old and is quite common, in fact we see cars daily with this condition. Changing the windshield out can certainly make it worse especially because we are blowing off the area with compressed air. While we are not a trim shop we can certainly adhere that material back to your satisfaction or have a trim shop do it if needed . 2. "I also noticed that the header piece that the liner sits over is no longer tight to the windshield. " When the interior trim is resting or touching the inside of the glass you can get squeaking, creaking and other bothersome noises, therefore we always try to make sure that the glass is not touching the interior trim. Your exterior molding height is what is most important. It needs to sit correctly on the body of the car for aesthetics and to eliminate any wind noise and ensure the wipers work correctly . In your comment card you also said that your car was not cleaned, while we do not wash your car we do clean all the windows inside and out and vacuum the interior and wipe down the dash as a courtesy. If that basic cleaning was not done than we would be happy to do it for you when we fix your concerns. Please let me know when you can leave your car with us, I will put you in a loaner and fix the above items. I do not recommend setting the windshield any lower but would be happy to remove and replace it if you prefer. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Barbara, as you know the $100 was for rust repair . It was more than likely the result of a poor previous windshield installation. Our standards do not permit us to just glue over rust as it will leak and cause safety problems. You did have a choice, we gave you the option of having it repared by a body shop or a temporary quick repair just focusing on the area we are gluing to. A body shop would have charged $400-$500. I know these things can seem like a way to make a quick buck off of you but be assured that at Affordable Auto Glass we are looking out for your safety and we want to provide you with the best possible installation possible. "I was there just for an inspection sticker and I was happy my car was brought in right away and done quickly, too bad the new system is causing problems for people as that day it wouldn't go through to the Registry, however as soon as I left, I was called at home and told of the sticker printing out, so I had to go back, but again my car was brought right back in and taken care of. It was an inconvenience to have to come back but my displeasure is more with the registry and their new system! thank you"

"Auto glass was replaced with large gap left at top of window. Technician informed me that sometimes the plastic supports are bent when they get put on, and mine was one of the 'better ones' he's seen. Also, the secretaries rushed through the VIN etching, and left the VIN #s all crooked and high up on the window, instead of putting them in the corner. Excellent customer service, but not happy with the results of the glass replacement or the VIN etching."

"I was happy with the work done on my car the second time! As soon as I got into my car the first time I realized immediately that there was a wave in the windshield. It was directly in my line of view. I'm wondering how the technician missed it seeing as he had to drive the car over to me. I was just surprised that he either saw it and hoped I didn't or maybe he really did not see it. I did however appreciate that my car was done in the time frame that I had asked it to. Also, when I called back to report the defect it was taken care of right away and I was very satisfied at that. I didn't expect to have to pay for gas the second time seeing how as it was not my fault but kind of understand seeing that it is a free loaner. I would definately use your company again, I just thought I would bring this situation to your attention."

"I took my car in for inspection on 9/2/08 and it was rejected for an emergency brake and the 2 dings in the front windshield. my complaint is that the 2 dings were passed for inspection last year at your facility and this year they don't pass. i don't understand why, the dings are no bigger than they were last year. my husband called and was told you have a new inspector and you are only allowed 1 ding. how in a years time does it go from being okay to have 2 dings, to now you can only have 1? i will bring the car back for service, but it doesn't make me a happy camper."
Cecilia we actually measure the breaks to determine if it will pass or fail. Windshields will be regected for any stone bruise ,star break, or bullseye damage in excess of one inch in diameter within the critical viewing are or larger than two inches outside of the critical viwing area or multiple such damage. Your car was here a year ago so there is no way to remeber the size of those breaks but rest assured they were in allowable limits then. Cracks and this type of damage tend to grow with time slowly so it will appear it is staying the same. The ruler is the only accurate way to determine this and the law is cut and dry. Last year one of the breaks may have been just under the size and the inspector made a judgement call to pass it to save you the expense of a windshield or repair. Hi Elizabeth, after seeing this comment I was perplexed because we went above and beyond for you. Your car was found to have a very large rust hole that needed to be fixed by an auto body shop before we could complete the installation. That rust repair was between you and the body shop, we even delivered the car to them for you at no expense to you. The customer service reps were not annoyed or being rude they simply did not have any answers because we did not have your car back, again that was between you and the autobody shop. As soon as we received you car it was back to you that same afternoon all clean and good as new.( update: customer called and said happy with the installation and some of the comments were meant for the body shop which is not related to us)
